Description

The Department of Health [11] was formed in 2011 and, whilst it remained unchanged following the 2020 Legislative Assembly election, restructuring was being undertaken.
The department manages 6 divisions: Top End Health Service; Central Australia Health Service; Public Health and Clinical Excellence; Office of the Chief Executive; Finance Support Services; Health System Policy and Strategy. The Top End Health Service and the Central Australia Health Service were established by statutory authority in 2014 under the Health Services Act 2014.
The Top End Health Service includes responsibility for Darwin urban and rural region, East Arnhem Region and Katherine Region inclusive of hospitals.
The Central Australia Health Service includes responsibility for Alice Springs urban and rural region and Barkly region inclusive of hospitals.
In collaboration with the Australian Government, the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre located at Darwin Hospital works to enable the reception and management of local, national and international victims of disaster.
The Department of Health [11] was amalgamated with Central Australia Health Service and the Top End Health Service to form NT Health in 2021.
